Tennessee Baseball to Face LSU in SEC Tournament Championship
Vols Aim for Title After 4-3 Victory
The Tennessee Volunteers will face the LSU Tigers in the championship game of the SEC Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Vols advanced to the title game with a 4-3 victory over LSU on Saturday night in Hoover, Alabama.
LSU Strikes First
LSU appeared poised to remain undefeated in the tournament after scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Jared Jones singled to drive in Cade Doughty, giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
Vols Rally for Victory
Tennessee responded with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Drew Gilbert singled to drive in Evan Russell, and Jordan Beck followed with a sacrifice fly to score Gilbert and give the Vols a 2-1 lead.
The Vols added two more runs in the fourth inning. Luc Lipcius doubled to drive in Cortland Lawson, and Seth Stephenson singled to drive in Lipcius, giving Tennessee a 4-1 lead.
LSU Threatens Late
LSU threatened to rally in the ninth inning, loading the bases with one out. However, Tennessee closer Ben Joyce struck out Doughty and forced Josh Pearson to ground out to end the game and secure the victory for the Vols.
Tennessee will now face LSU for the championship of the SEC Tournament on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm in Hoover, Alabama.
