Germany Thrashes 10-Man Scotland 5-1 to Kick Off Euro 2024
Hosts Make Impressive Start to Tournament
Germany made a stunning start to their Euro 2024 campaign on Friday, thrashing 10-man Scotland 5-1 in a dominant performance in Munich. The hosts took the lead through Timo Werner after just four minutes, and then doubled their advantage through Kai Havertz 10 minutes later.
Scotland Faces Uphill Battle
Scotland's hopes of a comeback were dealt a major blow when Ryan Porteous was sent off for two yellow cards within the space of 10 minutes towards the end of the first half. The dismissal left Scotland with an uphill battle and Germany capitalized with two goals from Leroy Sané and one from Jamal Musiala to put the game beyond doubt.
The defeat leaves Scotland with a difficult task in their remaining group stage matches, while Germany will be confident of qualifying for the knockout rounds with a game against a weaker opponent next.
